How to Choose RV Sealant Tape Width

The correct width covers the entire damaged zone and still reaches clean bonding surface on both sides. Choose from the repair dimensions, not from a universal “best” size.

Measure the full problem

  1. Identify the complete seam, crack, edge or failed sealant path.
  2. Mark the material that must be covered or removed.
  3. Find stable, clean surface on both sides of the repair.
  4. Choose a tape width that spans the repair and reaches that stable bonding area.

Do not size tape from the visible crack alone. Loose coating, failed sealant or a hidden leak path can make the true repair area wider.

These are selection examples, not universal application rules. Surface condition and the geometry of the repair take priority.

Estimate roll quantity

Each verified MOGOFE roll is 50 feet long. Add the length of every planned tape run, then include the material needed for corners, overlaps and trimming. Divide that total by 50 and round up to the next whole roll.

Quantity formula: total planned tape length ÷ 50 ft = rolls required, rounded up.

Before choosing a wider tape

Wider is useful only when it creates better coverage on sound material. A wider strip should not be used to hide rotten, loose or structurally damaged substrate. Repair the roof material first, then select the width for the finished sealing path.
