A reliable RV roof tape repair starts before the release liner comes off. Use this guide to inspect the repair area, prepare a stable surface and apply MOGOFE RV Roof Sealant Tape with full contact.
Important: sealing tape is not a structural repair. Replace rotten, delaminated, loose or otherwise failed roof material before sealing the joint.
Before you begin
- Identify the full leak path, not only the first visible water mark inside the RV.
- Confirm the roof or membrane manufacturer permits an adhesive-tape repair on the affected surface.
- Measure the full repair run and choose a width that covers the damage with clean bonding surface on both sides.
- Work only on a dry, stable surface. Do not trap moisture under the tape.
Step 1 — Inspect the full repair area
Check the seam, vent, skylight, window edge or membrane transition from end to end. Remove loose debris and determine whether the substrate itself is sound. If the roof material is soft, rotten, lifting or structurally damaged, repair that condition first.
Step 2 — Clean and dry the bonding path
Remove dirt, dust, oil, wax, oxidation and loose old sealant. The adhesive needs direct contact with stable material across the full tape width. Let the surface dry completely before continuing. A surface may be a listed compatible material and still fail to bond if its coating is loose or contaminated.
Step 3 — Dry-fit, cut and position
Plan the entire run before peeling the liner. Cut the required length and confirm the tape will cover the damaged area without stretching. For corners and changes in level, plan how the tape will lie flat and avoid folds that can create a water path.
Step 4 — Peel, place and press
Remove the release liner progressively, place the tape and press from one end toward the other. Apply steady pressure across the full width, then recheck every edge, corner and transition. The goal is continuous contact without trapped moisture, dirt or open channels.
Curves, corners and roof penetrations
MOGOFE tape is intended for flat, curved and corner applications. Around vents and skylights, work slowly, avoid unnecessary stretching and make sure the tape remains fully supported by the roof surface. If the shape forces a fold or unsupported bridge, stop and revise the tape layout.
Do not apply directly over
- Wet, oily, dusty or dirty material.
- Loose paint, loose coating or failing old sealant.
- Rotten, delaminated or structurally damaged roof material.
- A surface whose manufacturer prohibits adhesive repair tape.
- Pressurized plumbing, fuel-system or underwater repairs.
Final inspection
- All tape edges are pressed down and supported.
- The full damaged area is covered.
- No moisture, debris, wrinkles or open channels are trapped under the tape.
- Corners and changes in level have full surface contact.
